The UCM

Mrs Maureen Mayers - International Officer
Frances Dean
Maureen Mayers

I joined the UCM in the mid 80’s mainly to support my Mother who moved into my Parish and knew few people. It was the best thing I could have done both for Mum & me.

Within a short time I started going to Diocesan meetings and getting more involved, and eventually I took on the role of Diocesan Welfare Officer. After some years I was approached to put forward for President, which I did, as I received my badge of office I wondered if Mum was looking down from heaven with glee, it took her many years to get me into the UCM but when she did she made a good job of it and proved
the old saying “Mother knows best”

When my term of office was completed I was appointed to the position of Co-ordinator for The National Holiday & Rest Home Service, a job I was privileged to do and enjoyed enormously.

I have recently taken over from Sr Brigid as International Officer and am looking forward to fulfilling
this position to the best of my ability. Since I first joined the UCM I have received love and support
all along the way. Each office I have taken on has given me back more than I could ever express
